Allan Douglass Coleman in Performance:
spine on Staten Island, June 8, 2001

Shortly after returning to New York, I learned that I'd received a Performing Arts Award for 2001 from the Council for the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island, for presenting the live-performance version of spine as part of the 2001 edition of the COAHSI-sponsored "Junefest," a regular event in this borough. As this represented the first recognition I’ve had for my creative work. I’m especially pleased that it came from my own home base here on Staten Island. Here are some stills and QuickTime clips from that event.

Laura Jean Watters and Veronica Carle of COAHSI could not have helped more in facilitating the presentation of this multimedia project, which had its official, full-scale world premiere on Friday, June 8, 2001, at the marvelous, little-known Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art here. Jeanann Celli of the Tibetan Museum and her staff there were a pleasure to work with, fully supportive in every regard. The event, attended by about 50 people, was covered by Time-Warner Cable. Plans are afoot to stage this production elsewhere on the island, and I'm willing to present it anywhere I'm invited to do so.
