Author's
Note
In brief:
Joel Levy is born in the Bronx in 1917 to Samuel
Elijah, a labor organizer, and his wife Rachel.
We follow Joel through his early years, his
struggles with police, bumming cross-country
during the Great Depression, hard times and
dangerous ones in the South, fighting for the
Loyalists in Spain, interrogation by the FBI,
encounters with company goons and Red squads.
A story about those times, without which we
can't fully comprehend these times.
I'm posting this novel serially, chapter by
chapter, taking a cue from Charles Dickens.
New chapters will appear here on a roughly quarterly
schedule.
