Joel Eisinger (1951-)


Joel Eisinger has a B.A. in political science from Indiana University; an M.A. in East Asian Studies from StanforJoel Eisingerd University; and an M.F.A. in photography and a Ph.D. in art history from Indiana University. He teaches in the art history department at the University of Minnesota, Morris where his courses include Chinese Art, African American Art, Nineteenth-Century European Art, Early Modern Art, Postmodern Theory, and the History of Photography. He is editor of exposure, the journal of the Society for Photographic Education.

Eisinger's publications include Trace and Transformation: American Theory and Criticism of Photography in the Modernist Period, the first extended critical study of the critical tradition in photography. His current research and writing concerns white racial identity in U. S. photography.
