I'm goin' fishin', baby, and I've got a long, long pole.

In which the word plunce is defined, its etymology traced, and the purposes of this journal explicated.

The word quim has always struck me as gentle, mellifluous, and perfectly descriptive of a woman's sex, combining and evoking for the mind and sensorium two delicious small fruits: the tart, tangy, chewy quince and the milder, sweeter, more succulent and fleshy plum. If we imagine that the word quim represents a combination of those two delicacies, then we might agree to the eco-logic of an alternative or variant thereof, in which the letters left over from that combination, undiscarded, join to form another word representing the admixed qualities of them both: plunce. (See example, left.)

Leg and Foot

This journal will track a middle-aged man's meditations on and experiences with that subject. Put your little foot right in, as the song goes. I've wanted to start a journal for some time; so I made it one of my new year's resolutions for 2004, and here we go. This period of my life involves both intensive search -- for the woman who I hope will become not just my next lover but my true life partner -- and reminiscence.

I want to review, understand, and learn from my past (in order to benefit from what succeeded, and to not repeat the mistakes). And I want to take my time identifying the next major person in my life and working my way into that relationship. Regardless of my appetites, there's no rush here; I intend to construct this next one for the long haul.

P.S. Entry titles for these writings of mine come from blues, rock, pop, and jazz songs, with attribution whenever possible. These excerpts bear no necessary relationship to the contents of a particular post. Same goes for the images, all made by me unless otherwise indicated.
