I’m pleased to announce that I will be participating again this year in the Seattle Erotic Art Festival. I will have four of my couples photos in the show this year, as well as an installation exhibiting over 250 of images taken at Public Disgrace video shoots from kink.com.
I have had my photography accepted into the Seattle Erotic Art Festival every year since 2004 — a real honor as I consider SEAF to be the best of the various group shows of erotic art in the US. I was also honored to be named a Master of Erotic Art by the Festival in 2012. I’m excited that this year, in addition to showing individual images, I will be presenting the very different and (to me) amazing photos I was able to take while attending 36 shoots for kink.com‘s Public Disgrace website. (See description of this installation below.)
This year’s Festival will again be at Seattle’s Exhibition Hall, 301 Mercer Street. Festival hours are Friday, April 28, 6:00 pm-2:00 am; Saturday, April 29, 12:00 noon-2:00 am, and Sunday, April 30, 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. I will be giving a talk about the Public Disgrace installation, titled “The Intimate Kink.com,” on Sunday at 12:30.
If you will be in Seattle during this weekend, I strongly encourage you to attend SF. The artwork is consistently beautiful, and the performance aspect of the show is wonderful as well. All in all, SEAF is a weekend-long celebration of eroticism and erotic art not to be missed. More information about SEAF is at seattleerotic.org.
I will be present at the Festival pretty much all the time it will be open. Please let me know if you plan to be there and hopefully we can arrange to say hello. Hope to see you there!
HUMOR, TENDERNESS, ABSURDITY, INTENSITY: THE INTIMATE KINK.COM
From 2009 to 2013, I had the opportunity to take still photographs during the filming of videos at Kink.com — primarily Public Disgrace shoots directed by Princess Donna Dolore. I was moved by what I saw there: seriousness of purpose, respect for both actors and audience, genuine scenes of power and vulnerability, all combined with the uniquely crazy culture of porn video production. The emotions I discovered there — intimacy, tenderness, attention to detail, deep emotional connection — were hardly what I expected at a BDSM porn shoot when I first entered that world. These qualities, together with moments of humor, playfulness, intensity, and absurdity, made these shoots wonderful displays of spontaneous and delightful human emotion ripe for recording with my camera. This installation is an automated, revolving slide show of the best 280 of thousands of images from those shoots. Collectively they offer an honest, sexy, and entertaining lens into a
