1901: "The New School of American Photography," an exhibition of pictorialist work curated by F. Holland Day, opens at the Photo Club de Paris to supportive reviews, after a negative response in London. The two showings establish the reputation of American pictorial photography and, for the first time, bring together those American photographers who subsequently achieved recognition as pioneers of fine-art photography.
