Set Free
by Earl Coleman

To ramify,
both vertically
and horizontally -
most difficult for us,
no trellis for support,
dew sparse.

Few manage it,
a-sprawl and wild,
or like bonsai
with rigid, strictured growth,
too artificial, mild,
form’s farce.

We prisoners
of amber seas
must break the seal
of centuries, arms wide,
and surface, green with life,
up-starts.
