This city thus pioneered China's expansion into the international sphere. In 2005, The Nearby Café's A. D. Coleman established a new base for himself in Shenzhen, with his life partner (and now wife), Anna Lung, and her teenage son (now their son) Jacky.
Middle Kingdom Journal tracks Coleman's personal and professional experiences in mainland China and Hong Kong. These observations and ruminations annotate his cross-cultural adventures as a world citizen in a country that plays an increasingly powerful role on the planet. Ni hao ma?
