TB-AIDS DIARY: Linda Troeller

Award-winning photographer Linda Troeller is known for her atmospheric art images as well as her photo-paintings, portraits, and photocollages. Her recent books include Healing Waters (Aperture), Spa Journeys (PowerHouseBooks), and Erotic Lives of Women (Scalo), which the New York Times Book Review called "one of the most gutsy books of the decade."

Troeller's work has been exhibited internationally, with shows in Germany, Austria, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, England, and the U.S.

She has photographs in the permanent collections of major museums and institutions including the Library of Congress Photo Collection (Washington, DC), the Museum of Fine Arts Houston (Texas), the Musée de l'Elysée (Lausanne, Switzerland), the Polaroid Collection (Boston, MA), and the Contemporary Forum for Art (Aachen, Germany). She has been commissioned to create a series of 33 photo-paintings for the Liquidrom Spa in Berlin.

Troeller won the Woman of the Year award (Rutgers University, Douglas College) for her photocollage series TB-AIDS DIARY, which has been translated into many languages and exhibited around the world. She was also awarded first place for magazine photo in "Pictures of the Year" (University of Missouri School of Journalism). As a lecturer in art and photography departments, she has presented at Ryerson University, Memphis State University, and at Yale University School of Art, among other forums.

Her commercial work includes fashion and beauty shoots and catalogs, which have taken her to three continents. She is represented by Agence Vu, Paris; Grazia Neri, Italy; and Zumapress, USA. Her website is www.lindatroeller.com.

Troeller lives and works in the Chelsea Hotel in New York City, where she is working on an exhibition and book project on this landmark hotel.
